Bigg Boss, a chart-busting reality based television program, has been at the heart of the nation for quite a few years. With 10 years of airing as the primetime show, it has garnered ardent followers. The show has already dished out 9 seasons till date along with a spin-off season in between.
Based on the concept of Big Brother, where a number of contestants are selected upon to live as housemates in a purpose built homes, this one has made quite a mark. The purpose built homes are deprived of television connection, telephone connection, clocks, paper or pen. However, the house is laden with modern amenities like gym, swimming pool, garden and more. The show works on the rule of eviction and elimination whereby members gets eliminated along with each passing week. The show also stipulates rules regulating every housemate to enroll for help within the house. The finale concludes with a few members or housemates remaining along with one swooping in the title of winner. The show also awards a cash prize for the winners along with the title.

Bigg Boss Season 1 (2006) Winner: (Rahul Roy)
The first season of the Bigg Boss was premiered back in 2006 on 3rd November t2006 with finale aired on 26th January 2007. The show featured 15 housemates vying for the top spot. The show was aired on Sony Network.
As is the norm, the show continued for 86 days when the finale aired upon at the end. It was hosted by Arshad Warsi, a Bollywood personality who is widely known for his superhit movies Munna Bhai, Seher, Jolly LLB and more.
The first season of the Bigg Boss was won by Rahul Roy with Carol and Ravi coming in at first and second runner-up respectively. Alongside the title, Rahul Roy also swoops home the prize money of Rs 1 crore.
Bigg Boss Season 2 (2008) Winner: (Ashutosh Kaushik)
With the first show hitting chart busting numbers in the TRP segment, the second season was keenly looked forward too. The show was aired on 21st of August with the finale concluding on 22nd of November. The show was now being aired on Colors network.There was a change in faces for the host as Shilpa Shetty took the baton and presented the second season of Bigg Boss. The show went on for 98 days, a whopping 12 days more than the season before.
The second season saw Ashutosh Kaushik take the plaudits of the winner along with a cash prize of Rs 1 crore. Here’s some trivia facts for you, Ashutosh Kaushik had also been the winner of another reality based show MTV Roadies.
Bigg Boss Season 3 (2009) Winner: (Vindu Dara Singh)
Coming into the third season of the series, Bigg Boss had a wide audience base that craved the show. The third season began on 4th of October and lasted till 26th of December. The show became a primetime hit for the Colors network adding to their TRP charts.The show had a length of 84 days in the third season and was hosted by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. Vindu Dara Singh, son of the Late Shri Dara Singh was crowned the winner for the third season with Parvesh taking up the first runners-up position. The second runner up was filled in by Poonam Dhillon.
As is the customary norm with the winner title, Bindu Dara Singh has also entitled to Rs 1 crore in prize money alongside Chevrolet Cruze, a compact car.
Bigg Boss Season 4 (2010) Winner: (Shweta Tiwari)
With the third season out of the way, it was time to gear up for the fourth one. And boy did they hit the right spot. A big change in the set-up was the appointment of Salman Khan as the host. The show also had a change in the number of participants with 26 vying for the winner’s title.
The show was still aired on Colors network and ran from 3rd October 2010 to 8th January 2011. The show was lengthened to 96 days as was the case in the second season.
The show featured its first ever female winner with Shweta Tiwari winning the finale alongside a prize money of Rs 1 crore. The show also featured Great Khali who won the runners-up title.
Bigg Boss Season 5 (2011) Winner: (Juhi Parmar)
The fifth season of the Bigg Boss was aired from 2nd of October, 2011 to 7th of January, 2012. The show was still part of the Colors network and featured 18 housemates for the first time.
The show was hosted by Sanjay Dutt and ran for 98 days when the finale concluded the season. The show also featured Salman Khan as the host in a few of the episodes. As for the winner’s title, Juhi Parmar, a known daily soap actress who shot top fame with the serial KumKum took home the accolade.
She earned a cash prize of Rs 1 crore apart from the winner’s title.
Bigg Boss Season 6 (2012) Winner: (Urvashi Dholakia)
With the sixth season drowned in the memory lanes, it was the time the sixth season made entry. The sixth season of Bigg Boss was aired on Colors network. The show premiered on 7th October 2012 with the finale scheduled for 12th January 2013.
The show was hosted solely by Salman Khan after he was contracted by Colors network. The show featured ran for 97 days and featured 19 housemates.
The winner for the sixth season of Bigg Boss was Urvashi Dholakia, a pretty known daily soap actress perfecting the negative roles on screen. Imam Siddiqui was crowned the first runner-up, while Sana Khan took away the second runner-up title. Niketan Madhok was also attributed with the third runner-up.
Urvashi Dholakia bagged a prize money of Rs 50 lakh along with the title. The prize money was decreased from the earlier season for this one.
Bigg Boss Season 7 (2013) Winner: (Gauhar Khan)
In came the seventh season that aired from 15th September 2013 with the finale concluded on 28th December 2013. The seventh season was aired once again on the Colors network and saw its TRP charts sore high.
The seventh season ran for 105 days and featured 20 housemates. The season was hosted by Salman Khan reprising his contract from last season. The show saw Gauhar Khan, a Bollywood actress, and model swoop the trophy of the winner on the finale. The show saw Tanisha Mukherjee crowned as the first runner-up and Ajaz Khan as the second runner-up. Sangram Singh was credited with the third runner-up title.
Gauhar Khan was awarded a prize money of Rs 1 crore for winning the season. The prize money for the seventh season was raised again from the sixth season.
Bigg Boss Season 8 & Big Boss Halla Bol (2014) Winner: (Gautam Gulati)
With the seventh season bidding adieu, it was time Colors network launch the next season of Bigg Boss. And rightly so they did it. The eighth season of Bigg Boss was aired from 21st September 2014 with the finale scheduled for 3rd of January, 2015.
The eight season saw Salman Khan reprise his role as the host of the show. The season ran for 105 days and featured 19 housemates. The season had a different outcome that the previous ones as a new spin-off season was extended on the back of the eight season and was merged within.
The eight season saw its conclusion on 5th of January with five final contestants. The show then proceeded forward with the spin-off Bigg Boss Halla Bol. Since Salman Khan had to step out for some professional duties for Bhajrangi Bhaijaan, Farah Khan took the position of host for the Bigg Boss Halla Bol.
The spin-off saw five finale contestants from the eight season along with five wildcard entries. The spin-off was aired from 3rd of January 2015 to 31st of January, 2015. It ran for 28 days when the finale saw Gautam Gulati up against Karishma Tanna. However, Gautam Gulati won the season with Karishma coming in at first runner-up.
Gautam Gulati also won a prize money of Rs 50 lakhs for the winner’s title.
Bigg Boss Season 9 (2015) Winner: (Prince Narula)
The ninth season of Bigg Boss was aired from 11th October, 2015to 23rd January 2016.
As for the ninth season of Bigg Boss, it saw Salman Khan reprise his role as the host. The ninth season had 20 housemates and ran for a period of 105 days. The season was aired on Colors Network.
The ninth season was won by Prince Narula, who earlier had won the ‘MTV Roadies’ and ‘Spitsvilla’. The show saw Rishabh Sinha stationed at first runner-up while Mandana Karimi became the second runner up.
Apart from the winner’s title, Prince Narula also won Rs 39 lakhs as the cash prize.
