She was also elected as the 15th Lok Sabha member from the Bhatinda Constituency after she defeated the candidate from the Indian National Congress Raninder Singh. Harsimrat gave her first speech on 3rd December 2009, where she spoke about the victims and the survivors of the 1984 Sikh Riots. She was also the part of Nanhi Chhan where the motive is to save the girl child and the trees. She was re-elected as the Member of the Parliament from Bhatinda in the year 2014 where she defeated the INC candidate Manpreet Singh Badal. She is now appointed by the Modi Government and is serving as the Union Minister for Food Processing.
