India is a country which has public holidays throughout the year. The lists of the Public Holidays are sent from the Government of India and the distributed in the country. The holidays are generally separated by few names and these are applicable across the country. Even though apart from the government offices, all public holidays are not mandatory, but ten public holidays are mandatory in India. The government offices enjoy 14 such holidays. There are different kinds of Public Holidays, National Holiday, Restricted Holiday, Gazetted Holiday and Regional Holiday.

This would be celebrated on Tuesday for the Dushhera occasion. It is a Gazetted Holiday.
Muharram – October 12
Muharram would be celebrated on Wednesday. It is a Gazetted Holiday.
Diwali – October 30
The most anticipated festival of lights will be celebrated on October 30. It is a Gazetted Holiday.
Guru Nanak Birthday – November 14
It would be celebrated on November 14. It is a Gazetted Holiday.
Milad-ul-Navi – December 13

Christmas – December 25
The birthday of Jesus Christ is celebrated on Christmas and it is a Gazetted Holiday.

It is celebrated on Jan 14 on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti on Thursday. It is also a Restricted Holiday.
Pongal – January 15
It is celebrated on January 15 especially in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This is also a Restricted Holiday.
Guru Govind Singh Jayanti – January 16
It is on January 16 and is to celebrate the birth of 10th Guru Govind Singh Ji. This is generally availed in the states like Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. It is restricted holiday.
