Olympic is a sporting event organized after every 4 years and this includes the sports from every part of the world. Thousands of sports-person takes part in this event to prove their ability and also challenge among others, to win the medal for their country. This year, the Olympics were held in Rio, Brazil and it had some memorable moments which made every Indian proud. Let’s have a look at the sports person who won medals for India in Rio Olympics 2016:

She represented India into the Badminton and went to the finals of the championship to win a Silver medal for the country. She was the only player who achieved this feat at this Olympics. On September 19, 2016 she made our country proud with her achievement. Her mentor is also a former Badminton player, Pullela Gopichand and he trained her for the couple of years so that she can concentrate on her game. Also, he followed some restrictions like banning of her mobile phones, training under strict conditions, offering hard guidance and personal training to nurture his talent.

PV Sindhu played her final against Spanish Badminton Carolina Marine and stood on the second number. It was a historic evening for all the Indians as a day before that, she went through her toughest challenge to beat a Japanese player and stood ahead of Bronze medal. She started her Badminton career at a very early age and won her first bronze medal in 2009 in Colombo and in 2010 she won her first silver medal in a championship held in Iran.

She from there continued learning and developing her skills in the sport and became the player who fought strongly against every player in the Olympics. Her stamina was really inspiring and she was making every set on the jaw dropping game. PV Sindhu belongs to Karnataka and while returning back from the Olympics with a silver medal, she was welcomed warmhearted and became a true inspiration for all the badminton players in the country. She is also awarded with Padma Shree this year after winning the medal at the Olympics. She is also a youngest player to win this feat in the championship and Indians are proud of her.

Sakshi Malik

Sakshi Malik

No one can do the uncertain event in this Olympics under the category of women wrestling as Sakshi Malik had done. She stunned the spectators by just changing the game results in the last minute of the game and winning the first medal for India as bronze. She is coming from Haryana and is known for state level wresting under women category. Apart from winning in this Rio Olympics, she had represented India several other times in the freestyle women wresting as in the Commonwealth Games held at Glasgow in 2014 where she won the Silver and before that had represented in the Asian Games in Doha in 2013 where she won a Bronze.

Sakshi Malik won the medal at that toughest time in India when there was no medal hung on the points table for India in the Rio Olympics. Her accuracy and sharp presence of mind had changed the game under her favor which also put her in the limelight as a first women wrestler winning a medal for India in Olympics. She started her career in wrestling in 2010. Earlier to this, she had done her Masters ina Physical Education as well. She has also been awarded with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award this year after winning the Olympic medal.
