What’s MTV Roadies?

Well, you might be amazed at this one, but herein lies the truth. Rannvijay Singh, the quintessential part of the MTV Roadies these days was a mere contestant back in the first season. Yup, you heard it right. He won the very first season and then went on to be part of the show in host and judge capacity for the upcoming seasons.

The first season of the MTV Roadies was aired back on back in 2003 on MTV network. The show was hosted by Cyrus Sahukar with 8 contestants vying for the top spot. The show was shot entirely in India.

The first season of the MTV Roadies was won by Rannvijay Singh. The show was judged by Raghu Ram and Rajiv Laxman. Alongside the title, Rannvijay Singh also took home a prize money of Rs 5 lakhs.

With the first season having an overwhelming response, MTV Roadies got underway with the second season in 2004. The show was still part of the MTV network, hence the name MTV Roadies.

The show featured 10 contestants, an increase from the previous season and was shot entirely in India as was the first season. The show featured the same judge panel from the first season as of twin brothers Raghu and Rajiv. However, there was a change of face in the host section as the past season’s winner, Rannvijay Singh replaced Cyrus Sahukar for the face in front of the camera.

The second season saw Ayushmann Khurrana claim the winner’s title of MTV Roadies along with the cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs and a motorbike. He later went on to be part of multiple TV shows before making his mark in the Bollywood.

With a couple of seasons done and dusted, it was the time the third season made its mark. The third season of the MTV Roadies was aired from November 11, 2005, and was concluded therein in the later stages of the year. The show was still home to MTV network and was aired on its channel.

The third season saw 13 contestants vying for the top spot. The number of contestants was on the rise for the third season as there were only 10 participants in the previous season. The season was shot entirely in India and was hosted by Rannvijay Singh. The judgement panel was made of Raghu and Nikhil Chinapa.

Parul Shahi, a resident of Delhi was announced the winner of the show and she took along a prize money of Rs 3.6 lakhs along with the bike trophy. She was the first female contestant to win the MTV Roadies.

The fourth season of the MTV Roadies was aired from 11th of November, 2006 and ran through to the early months of the year 2007. The show was part of the MTV network and was aired on its channel.

The show saw 13 contestants from different parts of the nation battle it out for the top spot. The number of contestants for the season was same as the third season. The host for the fourth season was Rannvijay Singh while the judgement panel featured Raghu, Gulshan Grover, and Nikhil Chinapa.

Anthony Yeh, a resident of Kolkata took the winner’s trophy home along with a cash reward of Rs 3.75 lakhs. He was awarded a motorbike for winning the show. The fourth season also marked the presence of Gurbani Judge (VJ Bani) as the runner-up. She has gone on to be part of MTV network in thehost and another capacity.

The fifth season of the show was aired in and around the end of the 2007 and ran its course to the forefront of the year 2008. The show was aired on MTV network and featured the judge as Raghu and Nikhil Chinapa.

The show was hosted by Rannvijay Singh who continued his stint in front of the camera. the show had 13 contestants battle it out for the top spot as was the case in the previous season. The show was shot at different International venues which were something new for the MTV Roadies. It was shot in India, Thailand, and Malaysia.

The fifth season was won by Ashutosh Kaushik who took home the cash prize of Rs 2.3 lakhs along with a motorbike. Ashutosh Kaushik also took part in the subsequent season of Bigg Boss adhering to his popularity and won the Bigg Boss Season 2.

With the fifth season neatly closed by, MTV proceeded with the sixth season of MV Roadies. The show ran from November 29, 2008, to April 26, 2009. The show was aired on MTV India as usual.

The show saw the judging duo of twin brothers Raghu and Rajiv handle the decision making while Rannvijay Singh continued along with his presentation duties. The season was hosted by Ayushmann Khurana and Gurbani Judge (VJ Bani). The season saw 20 participants, an increase from the fifth season and was shot in India and Australia continuing the norm of International venues.

The sixth season was won by Nauman Sait who won a prize money of Rs 3.62 lakhs along with a motorbike.

In came the seventh season which aired from November 2009 to June 25, 2010. The show was part of the MTV network and was aired on its channel MTV India as was the case with previous seasons. The show was judged by twin brothers Raghu and Rajiv along with Nikhil Chinapa, Cyrus Broacha, and Cyrus Sahukar. Rannvijay Singh carried on the presentation duties. The show was hosted by Gurbani Judge (VJ Bani).

The season saw 15 contestants participate at the end, a sudden decrease from the previous season where 20 of them participated. The show had International venues along its roadmap and featured India and African nations, Kenya and Egypt.

The seventh season was won by Anwar Syed, the then 24-year-old sports fanatic. He won the seventh season and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 0.9 lakhs along with a bike.

Also named as the MTV Roadies Shortcut to Hell, the eight season of the show was aired from January 19, 2011, to June 18, 2011. The show was part of the MTV network and saw MTV India air the show.

The show was judged by the same twin brother duo of Raghu and Rajiv and saw Rann vijay in his presentation avatar once again and as a judge too. The show was hosted by Siddhartha.  The show was shot in India and Brazil, continuing the norm of International venue. The show saw 13 participants up for the grabs of the top spot.

The eight season was won by Anchal Khurana, a resident of Delhi making her the only second female to win the season after Parul Shahi. She won a cash reward of Rs 4 lakhs along with the winner’s trophy. She also took home the bike as is the customary reward with the show.

MTV Roadies Season 9 (2012) Winner: (Vishal Khoker)

Themed as the MTV Roadies 9: Everything or Nothing, the ninth season was aired from January 7, 2012, to June 30, 2012. The show was part of the MTV network and was aired on MTV India.

The show was shot in India and United States continuing the norm of International venue that started along from the fifth season. The season saw 14 contestants for the battle of winner’s title. The show was judged by twin brothers Raghu and Rajiv along with Rannvijay Singh. Vijender Agarwal also had a stint as the judge on the show. The host for the show was Gurbani Judge (VJ Bani).

The ninth season of the show was won by Vikas Khoker hailing from Chandigarh who took home the cash reward of Rs 6.17 lakhs along with the bike and trophy.

MTV Roadies Season X (2013) Winner: (Palak Johal)

The tenth season of the MTV Roadies saw a theme of MTV Roadies X: Battle for Glory. The show was aired from January 19, 2013, to May 11, 2013. The show was aired on MTV India adhering to its contract with MTV network.

The season saw Rajiv depart from the show and was replaced by Rannvijay as one of the premier members of the show. Rannvijay also continued his contractual task of presenting the show in presentation capacity along with the added responsibility of the judge. The host for the show was yet again Gurbani Judge (VJ Bani).

The show featured 16 participants divided into two teams of eight contestants. The team was divided along as Raghu’s team and Rajiv’s team. The season saw eight new contestants with other eight of them who had previously appeared in past seasons. The show was shot entirely in India marking a change in policy from the previous seasons where International venues were common.

The season was won by Palak Johal, who previously had participated in the sixth season. She won a cash reward of Rs 4.5 lakhs along with a Hero Impulse bike and an HP laptop. She became the third female participant to win a season after Parul Shahi and Anchal Khurana.

MTV Roadies Season X1 (2014) Winner: (Nikhil Sachdeva)

The eleventh season of the MTV Roadies was aired on January 25, 2014, to May 18, 2014. The show was themed as MTV Roadies X1: Ride for Respect. The season was aired on MTV India as was the norm with the show from the very beginning.

The season saw Raghu and Rannvijay continue along as the judge from the previous season. Vijender Agarwal joined in as a judge for some parts of the season. Raghu’s twin brother Rajiv had departed the show after the ninth season. The season saw Rannvijay continue along his presentation duties apart from the judgmental part. Gurbani Judge (VJ Bani) took along the hosting duties for the show.

The eleventh season had 15 contestants fighting off for the top spot. The eleventh season of the MTV Roadies was won by Nikhil Sachdeva (nicknamed Nick) hailing from Pune. He won a cash prize of Rs 3.2 lakhs along with a Hero Impulse bike along with the winner’s trophy.

MTV Roadies Season X2 (2015) Winner: (Prince Narula)

The twelfth season of the show was aired from January 26, 2015, to June 27. 2015. The show was part of the MTV network and was aired on MTV India. The twelfth season featured 17 episodes along the way.

The season saw Raghu and Rannvijay in the judge capacity as was the case since the previous two seasons. Gurbani Judge (VJ Bani) once again took over the host duties.

The twelfth season of MTV Roadies was shot in India and Nepal and saw the presence of International venue after a stint of two seasons. The season had 22 participants vying for the top spot.

The season was won by Prince Narula who took home the cash reward of Rs 5 lakhs along with the winner’s medal. Prince Narula also took part in Bigg Boss 9 in the 2015-2016 and won the show.

MTV Roadies Season X4 (2016) Winner: (Balraj Khera)

The thirteenth season of the MTV Roadies was aired from February 20, 2016, and was concluded on 19 June 2016. The show was themed as MTV Roadies X4: Your Gang, Your Glory. The season was part of the MTV network and was aired on MTV India.

The thirteenth season saw 22 participants battle it out for the top spot. The show was hosted by Gaelyn Mendonca and saw four aspiring leaders in the audition round as Rannvijay Singh, Karan Kundra, Neha Dhupia and Sushil Kumar.

The season was shot in India and Bhutan marking the continuation of International venue for the show. The season saw Balraj Khera swoop home the trophy along with a reward of Renault Duster, the quintessential SUV ruling the Indian market.

With thirteen seasons blazing across its distinguished portfolio, MTV Roadies has carved quite a cull for itself among the youth and alike.
