Pankaj Advani was one of the leading English Billiards player and the former snooker player. He was awarded the Padma Shri award by the Indian Government in the year 2009 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2006 and he also the recipient of Arjuna Award in the year 2004. He won hat-tricks of hat-tricks in English Billiards championships by holding World, Asian, Indian Championship simultaneously in three different occasions from 2005, 2008 and 2012. In 2012, he turned into a professional snooker and won the 6-red snooker in his debut series in 2014. He currently holds 10 world titles to his name ,including the World Team Billiards Championship. He won IBSF World Snooker Championship bronze medal recently in 2016.
Pankaj Advani was born in Pune on 24th of July, 1985. He began his career in snooker at the age of 10 and he was coached by Arvind Sakura, who was the former national snooker champion. He made his international debut in the 2002 Asian Billiards Championship and finished as one of the finalists. He won world snooker championship in 2003 and won IBSF world Billiards championship in 2005. He won both point and time frame Billiards in that tournament. He also won the gold medal for India in the 2006 Asian games held at Doha and 2010 Asian games held in Guangzhou. The overall tally of the championship at major tournaments by Pankaj Advani is 17- 8 from the world championship, 5 from Asian championships, 2 Asian Gold Medals, 1 Australian open championship and 1 Asian team championship. It is the highest tally for Indian in Billiards and Snooker combined.
He lived in Kuwait during his childhood days and moved into Bangalore. He did his schooling in Frank Anthony Public School and get a Bachelor’s degree in commerce at Shri BhagawanMahaveer Jain college.
