Sakshi Malik makes India proud as she goes on to win the first medal at the Rio Olympics for India. The wrestler won a Bronze medal after taking on Aisuluu Tynybekova 8-5 in the 58 kg wrestling category.

Sakshi didn’t get on to a great start, and after India’s disappointing performance at the Rio Olympics this season, not a lot of people believed in her. The 23 year old wrestler however, fought tooth and nail towards victory. She concealed a 5 point lead in the contest, but she suddenly took over and won the match like a true champion. While Tynybekova started off strong, Saskshi didn’t give up and just when Tynybekova thougth she would win, Sakshi got the better of her and put her down.

After Saskhi’s move, Indians suddenly became eager to watch this intense match which was at 5-5. This is when Sakshi gave it her best and used some smart moves to take over Tynybekova thus leading to her win. Sakshi managed to get into the Repechage round after taking on Mongolian wrestler Orkhon in the second round by winning 12-3 and advancing towards the Bronze medal match.

Sakhi brought that ray of hope to Indians who thought India would come back empty handed this season after some very disappointing performances. It proves that India is full of talented athletes and one shouldn’t just expect the experienced ones to do well. There is a lot of hope still left for India with some amazing and talented athletes still left to perform.
