The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V: A Concept Bike

The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is based on Apache’s Draken concept.

When Apache first unveiled the Draken concept bike in 2014 Auto Expo, it caught the imagination of one and all. But, launching it was not to be. So the next best thing that Apache did was to launch TVS Apache RTR 200 4V in several versions with shades of Draken concept. We discuss the base model.

The Look:

The naked street fighter design of Apache RTR 200 4V presents a whole new generation of motorcycles from TVS. Looks-wise, the bike is akin to its older versions, but its new features are most appealing – a delightful mix of older Apache and Draken concept. The new features include a more aggressive pair of DRLs, sporty lights, step-up seat, gold-coloured front suspension, new black-coloured double barrel exhaust muffler, 10-spoke alloy wheels and the extended tank cowls. The new exhaust system has a 2-stage catalytic converter. In other words, it comes out as a superb looking bike.

The Console:

The new Apache RTR 200 4V is fitted with a fully digital, pentagonal shaped instrument console that starts exactly where headlight cover ends. It prominently displays the speedometer, trip-meter, tachometer, odometer, current gear display, clock, fuel gauge and lap timing. The turn LED indicator, ABS light, low fuel warning, high beam indicator and neutral light are placed below the screen.

The Performance:

The base model of Apache 200 is equipped with non-Fi engine with TVS tyres and is without ABS. It is powered by an air-cooled engine with an oil-cooler in two versions – carburetted and fuel injected. The carburetted version generates 20.23 BHP power with 18.1 NM torque, whereas the fuel injected version develops 20.73 BHP power with 18.1 NM of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. This means machine can do 0 to 60 kmph in 3.95 seconds, notching a top speed of 128 kmph. This is made possible by 180mm ground clearance and 800mm seat height.

The Ride:

Excellent aerodynamics and a powerful engine with ergonomically designed body not only give speed, but driving comfort too. The handle bar is easily reachable and the fuel tank is designed for a firm grip between the knees.

The Comfort and Safety:

The dual channel ABS option makes this bike a safe ride, even on bad roads. The front petal disc brakes are 270mm, whereas the rear ones are 240 mm. The upgraded tyres provide a better grip, enhancing safety. The bike has standard telescopic forks in the front and mono-shock suspension in the rear.

The Colours:

Seven attractive shades: Matte Red, Matte Black, Matte Yellow, Matte Grey, Matte White, Gloss White and Gloss Black.

The Cost:

The bike with an electric start is priced at Rs. 98,150.

The Verdict:

With shades of Draken concept and its design not only makes this bike an eye-candy, but a prized possession too. What’s most encouraging is that this bike that comes through as a racing bike is also a practical everyday bike that promises more mileage than its 200cc cousins. So take your call!
