Vijay Mallya was spotted in the stands on Sunday during the India vs Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy Group B clash at Edgbaston, according to media reports.

Although Hindustan Times could not alone confirm the veracity of the pictures, the absconding businessman was dressed in white and could also be seen showing something to former India captain Sunil Gavaskar.

Mallya, who owes around ₹9,000 crore for unpaid debts and money laundering, is also facing extradition to India and was arrested earlier this year. He is, however, still the country’s Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) representative besides being involved in a number of other sports. The Federation of Motor Sports Club of India, had however, decided not to renew the beleaguered businessman’s tenure as its honorary chairman, which expires in October this year.

The 61-year-old is the co-owner of the Formula One team Force India and has his companies own the Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore. His company also owned East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, although after Mallya resigned from the post of chairman and non-executive director of United Sports Limited, Mohun Bagan reportedly re-registered itself from McDowell Mohun Bagan to simply Mohun Bagan.

While he has always been a controversial figure, Mallya has never kept himself away from sports. His presence in the stands, while though have triggered controversies, is simply an indication of the same. Even after getting the bail hours after his arrest in April, he had congratulated Chris Gayle after the West Indian cricketer became the first cricketer to register 10,000 runs in the shortest format of the game

Mallya had fled to the United Kingdom in 2016 and was officially declared as an absconder by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court in November.
